Guess what?! Our brains absolutely LOVE mindfulness! 💗

A regular mindfulness practice has been shown to calm the primitive (anxiety centre) of the brain and strengthen the intellectual (thinking part) of the brain 🧠

Think of mindfulness as a SUPER RELAXING workout for the brain! One that if done consistently, can help us to strengthen our brain against anxiety by:

💙Lowering activity in the amygdala (the centre and influential part of the primitive brain - the anxiety “alarm bell”)

💚Increasing activity in the pre-frontal cortex (the logical and rational part of our brain - the bit that can help to calm anxiety)

Try starting with just 5 minutes a day, it can really make a difference!

For some simple guided mindfulness tips there are some brilliant apps with lots of free content to get started, such as Calm or Headspace. Or take a look at some of the ideas I have shared in previous posts on Facebook and Instagram....

💗Abdominal/belly breathing.

💚Grounding with the 5,4,3,2,1 technique, which helps to bring the focus inward using each of your senses. (I usually post details of this with a picture of a tree as they always inspire me to practice this technique when I’m out & about! So if you find a post with a tree picture on my feed there is a good chance this grounding technique will be detailed!)

💙 Listening to the super relaxing calm breathe bubble which is really good in moments of overwhelm.

💗💗💗 AND OF COURSE!!! not forgetting the wonderfully mindful moments you can enjoy during a nurturing, balancing and restorative Reiki session (I will be looking at opening up some spaces for blissfully relaxing remote sessions when I am further on in my hypnotherapy studies, and I have some time freed up, so watch this space for more details!!)

Embracing simple mindful moments in the day is great too, such as sitting in a sunny spot in the garden, feeling the warmth on your face (whilst giving yourself a blissful dose of serotonin to boost those happy feels too!) Or pausing for a few moments to take in a beautiful view on a walk, being TOTALLY absorbed in it, completely “in the moment”🌈

You can even turn “making your morning cuppa” into a simple mindfulness practice!! Yes really!!
