Following the government announcement on Thursday that close contact services can reopen on Monday 13th July (subject to restrictions) And after receiving all the specific guidance that followed yesterday from my professional governing bodies, the FHT and the UK Reiki Federation, I wanted to give an update on my plans.
It has been made very clear in the guidance that skin to skin contact should be avoided, treatment times must be kept to a minimum & that there should be no work that involves being near the face area (until the government gives a further updates reviewing high risk zones). I have been getting my head round it all, taking into consideration risk assessments, insurance requirements, current restrictions to therapies, and above all else your utmost safety. I am also mindful that myself, my children & some of my clients are in the clinically vulnerable category. Taking all of this into account, after lots of reading, researching & soul searching, I have decided it is not yet the right time for Soulshine Health to open it’s doors. I will keep a close eye on developments & revisit this decision again sometime in September. I am sure you can imagine it is not a decision I have taken lightly & I do hope I will have your continued support as things change.
Coming from a clinical background I am also concerned at the potential risks of massage therapy with regards to COVID-related coagulopathy (problems with blood clotting). There are still so many unknowns at the moment, but with new information developing all the time, I hope there will be more clarity & understanding on this over the coming months. The current guidelines & restrictions are primarily focused on infection control, not on risks from potential covid contraindications/cautions that we’ve yet to fully understand. I am simply not prepared to put anyone at unnecessary risk, no matter how small that risk may be. The most important thing for me is keeping everyone safe & healthy, and that is always at the very heart of any decisions I make.
When I do open, I want it to be at a time when I feel able to give you the very best treatment experience, for you to feel totally relaxed, in a peaceful & nurturing environment. I want everyone to feel comfortable & safe, and for your time with me not to feel rushed, restricted or clinical. I understand it’s not possible for everyone to wait to open, and so I am extremely grateful that I am able to embrace the little by little, slow & steady approach.
Please get in touch if you have any questions at all. I am still here with regular Facebook & Instagram updates, and I am happy to help if anyone needs support/guidance/tips for self massage at home etc, or if you would just like a listening ear, please don’t hesitate to message or call. If you are feeling anxious or overwhelmed please reach out.
Until I am open for face to face treatments distance Reiki is an option to consider, a safe, relaxing & rebalancing treatment in the comfort of your own home. I know many of you may feel it’s not the same having a treatment in this way, but please be assured it does bring the same benefits as a face to face treatment. I will post more information about distance reiki over the next couple of weeks for anyone who is interested/curious!
Obviously it’s a very personal decision on when to return to practice, a decision based on everyone’s individual circumstances & their assessment of risk dependant on many different factors, so I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all those getting back to it over the coming weeks the very best of luck. Sending you all the good vibes, you got this!
In all my reading of guidance & information over the last 48 hours I found this comforting & I thought it would be nice to share in conclusion to my extremely long update It’s based on a massage perspective but I think we could apply the sentiment to all areas of life right now.......
“There are no one-size-fits-all solutions for the problems in front of us. The best we can do is to carefully gather useful information, and when the time feels right, to cautiously put a toe in the water—and be prepared to pull it back out again if things change. We don’t have to dive back in all at once. We can enter the pool slowly, while we get our footing.” Ruth Werner, Massage & Bodywork~
Sending ooodles of love & strength to you all, take care & stay safe.
