Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy is a safe and powerful combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis.

A modern psychotherapeutic approach with practical and well-researched strategies to help you make significant positive changes in your life in a relatively short period of time.

Crucially, in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy we look at what you want to achieve (the solution) rather than at whatever prompted you to seek help (the problem).

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy incorporates aspects of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) and an understanding of how the brain works, combined with the power of hypnosis to bring about positive and enduring change at an all important subconscious level.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a relaxing and enjoyable experience and does not require any ‘digging into’ the past to help you move forward. Your past does not have to be your future, life can be better! We focus on discovering and creating your best hopes for the future, supporting and empowering you to make significant and long lasting change in your life.

What is Hypnosis and is it Safe?

Hypnosis or trance describes times when we experience a shift in our conscious awareness. Trance used during hypnotherapy is very different from the kind of things we might see in ‘stage hypnosis’.

In our day to day lives we all naturally go in and out of trance states many times during the day – perhaps when we are driving, reading a good book or even washing the dishes.

In this relaxed state, we experience changes in our conscious awareness – almost like being in a day-dream. During this time, the subconscious mind is more aware and can focus on helpful suggestions and thoughts.

Trance is a very natural and safe state. Contrary to what you might see on the television, trance is not mind-control! When we are in a trance state we are still in control, and we process and decide whether information or suggestions are useful to us or not, and will not accept or do anything against our will.

Being in a trance is a very relaxing experience – and it is something that all of us will frequently experience in our daily lives. In fact, experiencing changes in our conscious awareness is a vital part of our existence as humans – we need times where we can relax, reflect and consolidate information, and utilise different parts of our brains for different activities.

How many sessions will I need?

You will be pleased to hear that Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can work relatively quickly. On average clients will only come for between 6-12 sessions, and the majority will start to feel the benefits from early on in the process. The number of sessions you will need will depend upon your individual set of circumstances, the nature of the issue for which you are seeking support, and your own level of commitment and motivation.

As the client you will never be pressured to commit to any more sessions than you feel is right for you. The decision to complete therapy is always guided by you and when you feel ready to move forward on your own.

What are your qualifications?

I am a graduate of the prestigious Clifton Practice (CPHT) in Bristol.

Qualified, registered and insured with a full Diploma in Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy. The rigorous training and qualifications awarded by CPHT are highly regarded and accredited by a number of professional bodies including

National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)

Additionally I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and am trained as a

Mental Health First Aider (MHFA England) so you can be fully assured you are in safe hands.

How does online Hypnotherapy work?

Online hypnotherapy works in exactly the same way as in a face to face session and has many added benefits. Many clients have found they prefer online sessions as they feel more comfortable and relaxed in their home environment, this can only benefit progress as it adds to the therapeutic alliance. Once we have agreed a time for your session you will be sent a unique Zoom link, which allows simple and secure access to your hypnotherapy session at the click of a button, so you can enjoy working with me from anywhere in the UK!  All you need is a reliable internet connection and a comfortable space where you are unlikely to be disturbed. I have even had pets join their owners for online sessions which can be very comforting for some clients.

For more information on the benefits please read my blog post

"Online Hypnotherapy from the comfort of your own home".

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions, especially if you are not confident with technology, I would like to reassure you of the simplicity of Zoom. I have worked with clients with no experience of Zoom/video calls and they have quickly felt comfortable and happy with the ease of the process.

Is Hypnotherapy like stage hypnosis?

No it is not. Stage hypnotists are entertainers. Clinical Hypnotherapists are trained to help you improve your life.

Both use the natural state of trance but for completely different outcomes.

Stage hypnosis is specifically designed to entertain us and to make us laugh!  The volunteers/contestants picked are usually carefully vetted and only people who are willing to behave in amusing ways are selected.

And contrary to the image often portrayed in movies and stage shows, hypnosis does not involve mind control! Nobody can make you do anything you do not want to do. Your subconscious mind will always step in and reject any suggestion that is inappropriate for you.

From a scientific perspective, changes in conscious awareness during hypnosis or trance can be demonstrated using Electroencephalography or EEG, which is a method of recording electrical energy in the brain.

Our brain wave activity changes all the time, particularly as we enter different phases of when we go to sleep.

When we use guided relaxation and mental imagery it can encourage us to go into a trance state, which causes a natural shift in brainwave patterns. This means that we might shift from being in a fully alert mental state (like when we are hectic and busy working during the day - as shown by beta brain wave activity) into other states.

As we are guided into deeper levels of relaxation, the brain demonstrates more alpha and theta wave activity, where we feel calmer and more relaxed but can also visualise images and reflect on different ideas that may be useful to us.

This is why Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be so beneficial, because it combines powerful solution-focused psychotherapeutic discussions, followed by a relaxing trance state where the ideas and solutions discussed can then be explored subconsciously, and utilised by the brain for positive benefit.

Free Discovery call (15 min)

This free discovery call gives you a chance to discuss the reasons you are seeking support and is an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the process. Helping you to feel comfortable, reassured and informed about what will happen and how hypnotherapy can help you.

Initial Consultation (50 min) £35

Includes free MP3

A chance to get to know each other and to discuss your goals and best hopes for moving forwards in your life. The consultation begins with general information gathering (such as your contact details, any history or conditions that you might feel are relevant) and discussion of the areas for which you are seeking help. After this we explore how the mind works, how we experience emotions in the way that we do and how these can affect us and our habits, and importantly what we can do to create change. We also discuss what trance is, reassuring you that it is a very normal and natural state, and what you can expect from your subsequent sessions.

We do not use hypnosis in the initial consultation.

At the end of the consultation I will give you an indication of the likely number of sessions that may be required, which will differ depending on your circumstances and the reasons for seeking therapy.  Following the consultation I will send your free relaxation MP3 to listen to, which can help you relax, and reinforces the benefits of hypnotherapy when used in between sessions. (Please note there is no pressure or obligation to book after the initial consultation, it is important that it feels right for you)

General Hypnotherapy Session (60 min) £70

During a typical session, I will begin by asking you about your week (or the time since your last session). This will help you to discuss what positive things have been going on, and whether you have noticed or made any changes in your life that are moving you closer to your best hopes for the future. We will discuss aspects of how the mind works and relate this to your experiences, and using solution focused questions we will work together to help you to move forward in your life. Depending on your circumstances, our discussions may involve a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques, including elements of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT),

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) as appropriate.

During the second half of the session you'll be invited to quietly relax in a space that feels comfortable for you, and I will guide you gently into a relaxed state, where you can enjoy a day-dream-like trance state, and allow your subconscious mind to focus on, further absorb, and reflect on the things that have been discussed during the session. Leaving you feeling refreshed and calm, and ready to embrace the week ahead.
